Students to Unveil their Talents During 3rd Annual Black History Month Celebration

Calverton, NY, February 25, 2016 – – Riverhead Charter School, a tuition-free public school providing quality education for a diverse group of students from kindergarten through eighth grade, is proud to announce that they will be hosting their 3rd Annual Black History Month Celebration on February 25th, 2016. The concert is scheduled to begin at 6pm sharp at the newly-constructed facility in Calverton, NY.

On this special day, students of different ages, races and ethnic backgrounds will come together to honor the achievements of African Americans through musical and theatrical re-enactment.

“Our students are utterly excited about demonstrating their talents and creativity in celebration of Black History Month,” says Ms. Farmer, 4th grade teacher & lead planner of the event.   “The upcoming event will take place in our new facility, and we know it is going to be amazing. This is not only an opportunity for kids to display their creative skills, but also build confidence and develop a deeper appreciation for all the sacrifices that have been made by African Americans in the past.”

“What’s important is that all the monetary donations for the concert will be sent to charter schools in Flint Michigan, where a lot of young children have been affected by the toxic water crisis,” says Ms. Graham, director of finance.  “We are glad that we are in a position to extend support to other students and their families, and do something to alleviate their suffering in time of need.”

The audience attending the concert will enjoy a wide variety of memorable performances, including step exhibition, civil rights play, a few popular songs (old and new), as well as learn about the history of hip-hop dance.

Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month, is an annual observance in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to pay tribute to people of color who have made a significant contribution to society, as well as commemorate important events in the history of the African diaspora.
