Riverhead Charter School Students to Participate in the Student Aid Alliance Advocacy Day

Heading to Albany to Stand Up for Student Aid and Share Stories About the Value of Higher Education

Calverton, NY, February 2, 2016 – – It’s that time of year… As we are approaching the 2016 Student Aid Alliance Advocacy Day, 40 Riverhead Charter School students and 10 parents are bracing up for a bus trip to the capital of New York State, to share inspirational stories about student aid initiatives and the influence these programs will have on their future, their careers and their lives.

The upcoming event will take place on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at “Well” of Legislative Office Building, Concourse Level, Empire State Plaza in Albany NY.

New York Student Aid Alliance Advocacy Day is an opportunity for high school and college students, faculty, financial aid administrators, as well as legislators and higher education policy makers to join efforts and demonstrate support for student aid funding and higher education.

“We look forward to participating in this important event that can impact so many children and help them fulfill their college aspirations,” says Raymond J. Ankrum, the principal of Riverhead Charter School in Calverton NY.   “I am convinced that every child deserves an equal shot at success. This is an opportunity for Riverhead Charter School students to get their voices heard and speak out on the value and importance of education and financial assistance.”

“Given the struggles that some kids and their families are facing, it is great that over the past four decades, millions of students were able to get the support they deserve and obtain state aid to cover their educational expenses,” says Catherine Rodriguez, K-8 World Language Teacher and parent of a 6th Grade Scholar.

Last year, hundreds of students and faculty from across New York State gathered in Albany to share their stories and emphasize the value of financial aid programs. These programs include the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), Grad TAP, Entry programs (STEP/C-STEP), and the Liberty Partnership Program (LPP).
